The IKU MicroTeam, established by Kerem Yasin Yıldızhan, Eray Kalabalıkoğlu, Yiğit Efe Aydın and Kübranur Bayraktaroğlu, who are members of the Molecular Biology and Genetics Club, participated in the TEKNOFEST "Environmental and Energy Technologies Competition", concluding the first stage with a score of 82.67/100. The project of the team aims to break down and recycle micro-plastics with the device created by utilising enzyme systems present in nature to counteract micro-plastics pollution.  Compounds derived from the breakdown of micro-plastics will be used in plastic production, as they are the raw materials used in the process.  With that, while adding more unrecyclable plastic onto the heaps of plastic out in the world will be prevented, bits of plastic that are too small to be seen with the naked eye will be recycled.
